Roles of the President:
Constitutional powers:
National Security: The president is the commander in cheif of the armed forces. He also makes treaties with other nations with a 2/3rds senate approval. The president also nominates and recieves ambassadors of other nations.
Legislative Powers: The president has the ability to present the state of the union to congress. He also can propose legislation to congress. The president can also veto legislation (2/3 vote of each house can override).
Administative Powers: The president has the responsibility to "take care that the laws be faithfully executed." The president appoints officials, he also requests written opinions of administrative officials. He can also fill administative vacancies during congressional recesses.
Judicial Powers: The president has the ability to give reprieves and pardons for federal offenses. He also gets to appoint federal judges.
Finally the president plays a big role in crisis manager. The president has the lead role in foreign affairs, but still must work with congress for support and funding of foreign policies.
