Structures of the federal court system:
District Courts: 91 of them in total. There is at least one in each state, and this court has original jurisdiction. This is the only federal cour that holds trials about 350,000 of them a year. Types of cases are either civil suits between citizens of different states and federal crime.
Appeals Courts: The court of appeals is divided into 12 judicial circuits. It usually has a panel of 3 judges to hear a case. This court does not look for guilt or innocence but to correct errors made at the district court level.
Supreme Court: Consists of 9 justices 1 cheif and 8 associate justices. They hear cases to resolve conflicts among states, interpreting national laws and maintaining national supremecy in law.
